Choose Fayette’s criminal division

Lexington criminal court records are requested through the Fayette County Office of Circuit Court Clerk, but Circuit and District records have different contacts. Circuit Criminal maintains felony indictments and information cases at 120 North Limestone, Suite C-103, Lexington, KY 40507; call 859-246-2224. The published hours are Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m. Use the court designation and case number on your papers so a preliminary matter is not confused with the later felony case.

For District Criminal/Traffic, use 150 North Limestone, first floor, Lexington, KY 40507, telephone 859-246-2228. The district page lists around-the-clock operation except December 24 and 25 for its services; call ahead about record-copy assistance rather than assuming every records service is staffed overnight. A police arrest entry and a detention listing are different products from the clerk’s case file. To establish how a prosecution ended, identify the judgment or disposition.

Inspect the case and order the particular filing

Circuit Appeals & Records, 120 North Limestone, Suite C-33, can be reached at 859-246-2147 on weekdays, 8 a.m.–4 p.m. It offers public research terminals, inspection space and copying facilities. Bring the case-era name, case number, filing year and requested document title.

Specify ordinary or certified copies and the required judgment or sentencing order. Mailed requests must include payment. The division page does not publish copy prices or a turnaround guarantee; obtain a total and delivery instructions at the number above. An index result cannot substitute for the document the recipient requires.

Locate an archived file without a name-only dead end

Fayette’s court guide describes State Records Center files as roughly 15–35 years old and Archives files as 36 years or older. Treat these as routing guidance, not a guarantee. KDLA’s current holdings FAQ says coverage varies by county, with gaps, and requires a case number, location, box and accession number for post-1978 inquiries. Obtain those identifiers from the filing clerk first. Its current State Records Center contact is [email protected] or 502-564-3617; Archives research is [email protected] or 502-564-1770. These current archive contacts differ from older court-page telephone and email entries.

Use AOC for a statewide report

Kentucky AOC reports use District and Circuit Court data from all 120 counties, not federal cases. They include felony information back to 1978 and misdemeanor/traffic information for at least five years, subject to reporting and retention. Expunged or purged cases and confidential categories are excluded. FastCheck lets registered users retrieve processed reports online; a One-Time Request returns the report by mail. FastCheck results remain available for 30 days, so save the response promptly.

The official RU-004 request form charges $25 for a report on yourself or another individual. For mail service, pay by check or money order to Kentucky State Treasurer and send the form to AOC Records Unit, 1001 Vandalay Drive, Frankfort, KY 40601. Supply the requested full name, birth date, maiden names or aliases, address and available identifying fields, plus your requester details and purpose. Submit sensitive identifiers only through the official application route.

Online card payments add 2.25% or $2.50, whichever is greater. Requests are handled in receipt order, with no paid expedited service and no fixed online turnaround. The mail form directs applicants to contact AOC if no response arrives within 30 days. A statewide report still does not supply every underlying order; return to Fayette’s clerk for a certified case document.

Public adult-case access does not open juvenile files

Fayette’s Juvenile Division states that juvenile cases are confidential. Case information is supplied in person only to a party or someone authorized by statute, with photo identification; it is not given over the telephone. The public adult-case research route therefore cannot be used as an unrestricted search of a young person’s file. Resolve a mismatch before reporting a result

Compare the identifiers and disposition, not just a name or charge caption. For an incorrect, incomplete or outdated AOC report, call 800-928-6381, weekdays 8 a.m.–4 p.m. Eastern. AOC resolves some issues and refers others to the filing clerk. Keep the report, disputed entry and supporting order together. Correction, obtaining a copy and expungement are separate tasks.
